Cable Beach is probably a more economical place to spend your time (and money) than either Nassau or Paradise Island. It's a great place to try out water sports like water skiing, jet skiing and parasailing, as there are many resorts offering these activities on the beachfront.

The Versailles Gardens and Cloisters will have you feeling like you're in France and not The Bahamas.
